Behind the Art: Fear of Clowns?
Even though the clown on Poltergeist scared the pants off me, I’ve never been “afraid” of clowns. But I was a little surprised when this clown appeared on my canvas–since there was no subject in mind before hand, the subject developed naturally through layering. I wondered what hidden message the clown was telling me.
This clown represents my sister, brother, and myself. In life, we all tend to be the “class clown”, but this painting made me realize we often use humor to hide our pain.
It helped me see art with new eyes that allow us to express a feeling or an emotion through an image.
